We have some steep inclines in the drives on our property. Can we sealcoat these, and if so, will the asphalt be slippery after applying the sealer?
We DO NOT recommend applying sealer to hilly drives and steep inclines. Although we mix sand with our sealer which helps prevent slipperiness in flat to semi flat areas, the amount of sand that we apply to our mix does not prevent slipperiness in steep grades and hills.
In the August 2017 edition of PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE AND RECONSTRUCTION MAGAZINE, Girish Dubey President of STAR Inc, a producer of sealcoating products, commented on this issue in an article he wrote flatly stating “Don’t sealcoat steeply inclined surfaces. Never claim that sealcoatings with sand will stop slipperiness.”
